New Perks System, Web Client & More!

Chronicles of Krynn continues to evolve with the introduction of the new Perks System, a powerful new way to customize your character’s development, alongside an enhanced Web Client that makes exploring Ansalon easier and more immersive than ever.

The New Perks System

One of the largest gameplay additions in recent months is the introduction of the Perks System, designed to provide additional character customization beyond traditional class progression. In additon to gaining class abilities when leveling, each level is now divided into four stages, with players earning perk points as they progress toward their next level.

As you earn experience, every 25% of the way to your next level grants perk points that can be invested into your class’s perk tree. Warriors can focus on martial prowess, rogues can refine stealth and precision, spellcasters can unlock powerful magical enhancements, and many other classes have their own unique advancement paths. Prestige classes interact with the system as well, often splitting perk points between multiple base-class trees to reflect the hybrid nature of those classes.

The result is an additional layer to character building, as well as making progression feel faster and more meaningful.

An Improved Web Client Experience

We’ve added a new web client as well, designed for Desktop/Laptop, and not yet optimized for mobile.

The client offers numerous features, such as aliases, triggers, key bindings, custom MSDP variable names, saving/loading of config choices, options to connect to any of the d20MUD/LuminariMUD family of MUDs as well as custom connections.

It offers both ASCII and graphical maps, character info, affects, group info, quest info, tab completion, command history, gauges for health, stamina, experience, psionic points, target name and health and tank name and health. It has the ability to turn off some or all of the different GUI parts, including a minimal option that is basically just your command line and output window.

Additional Recent Updates

The last several months have brought a number of other gameplay improvements and quality-of-life enhancements.

The group experience system has been rebalanced to better reward party play while maintaining overall progression balance. New spells including Doom, Disguise Self, Alter Self, Fog Cloud, Solid Fog, and Gust of Wind have been added, expanding both combat and utility options for spellcasters.

Questing and exploration have seen improvements through expanded support for the walkto system, allowing players to automatically navigate to quest targets and quest masters. Treasure and loot systems have also been refined, ensuring equipment obtained from random treasure sources remains appropriate for the challenges that generated it.

Players who use summoned companions and charmies now benefit from improved management tools, including the ability to inspect their statistics and remaining duration with the lore command. Various combat, crafting, spell, and perk-related bugs have also been addressed, improving overall stability and gameplay balance.

With the perk system, this is our biggest update in a long time.
