This page describes the major factions active in Chronicles of Krynn. These factions reflect the political, military, spiritual, and philosophical powers shaping Ansalon in the post–War of the Lance era.
Factions may grant roleplay opportunities, special commands, reputational consequences, and access to unique questlines or rewards. Some are organized as clans within the game. Use the clans command in-game for current membership requirements, ranks, and mechanical benefits.
"Est Sularus oth Mithas" — My honor is my life.
The Knights of Solamnia remain a pillar of honor and tradition following the War of the Lance. Though their reputation was tarnished before the war, their actions during the conflict restored much of their former glory.
The order is divided into three ranks:
Knights of the Crown – Defenders of law and justice
Knights of the Sword – Warrior-clerics devoted to faith and courage
Knights of the Rose – Leaders and exemplars of honor
Knights of Solamnia value courage, loyalty, self-sacrifice, and adherence to The Measure. Membership is often restricted to lawful and honorable characters.
The Knights of Takhisis were founded to mirror—and corrupt—the ideals of the Solamnic Orders. Lawful, disciplined, and ruthless, they seek to bring unity to Krynn through conquest, tyranny, and absolute obedience to the Dark Queen.
Though Takhisis was defeated and banished, the knighthood survived. In the post–War of the Lance era, its members operate from hidden strongholds, fractured alliances, or reformed orders, still pursuing power and control.
The knighthood is divided into three equal arms, each serving a distinct role:
Knights of the Lily – The martial core of the order. Lily Knights are frontline warriors, commanders, and conquerors who embody strength, discipline, and battlefield supremacy.
Knights of the Skull – The clerical and covert arm. Skull Knights serve as spiritual leaders, healers, inquisitors, and masters of intrigue, enforcing loyalty within the order.
Knights of the Thorn – The arcane arm. Thorn Knights wield magic in service to the knighthood, favoring divination and manipulation to shape events from the shadows.
Together, the Lily, Skull, and Thorn form a unified engine of war and control. To the Knights of Takhisis, honor is obedience, and peace is achieved only through domination.
The Conclave of Wizards governs the use of arcane magic on Krynn. Formed from the traditions of the Towers of High Sorcery, the Conclave enforces magical law and balance.
Wizards are typically aligned with one of the three Orders:
White Robes – Magic used in the service of good
Red Robes – Magic used in balance and neutrality
Black Robes – Magic used for power and self-interest
The Conclave monitors renegade magic-users and safeguards arcane knowledge. Membership often requires testing, discipline, and adherence to magical law.
The Dragonarmies were once the terror of Ansalon, wielding dragons, draconians, and overwhelming military force. Though shattered after the war, strong remnants endure.
These forces now exist as warbands, cults, and regional powers loyal to the ideology of conquest and draconic supremacy. Dragonarmy factions may still:
Command draconians or mercenary troops
Revere dragon overlords
Seek to restore the might of the old armies
They are widely feared and opposed—but their power is undeniable.
The Forces of Whitestone were forged during the War of the Lance as a grand alliance of good-aligned nations, orders, and peoples.
Though the formal alliance is not as cohesive as during the war, its legacy lives on through:
Veteran commanders
Allied military traditions
Shared intelligence and cooperation against evil
Members often act as peacekeepers, defenders of the weak, and bulwarks against renewed darkness.
The Night Blades are a shadowy organization of spies, assassins, and covert operatives. Their true loyalties are often unclear, and many operate under layers of secrecy.
They value:
Stealth and precision
Information over brute force
Loyalty to the organization above all else
The Night Blades may serve powerful patrons—or their own hidden agenda. Membership is typically limited and dangerous.
Devoted to Chislev, Goddess of Nature, the Chosen protect the wild places of Krynn from corruption and exploitation.
They include druids, rangers, shamans, and primal warriors who:
Defend sacred lands
Oppose unnatural forces
Seek balance between civilization and wilderness
Chislev’s Chosen often clash with industrial powers, dark magic, and reckless expansion.
Founded in the aftermath of the war, the Legion of Steel rejects noble titles and ancient hierarchies. They believe heroism is earned through action, not birthright.
The Legion emphasizes:
Skill and discipline
Innovation and adaptability
Merit over lineage
They accept warriors, rogues, and spellcasters alike, forging a new path for those disillusioned with the old orders.
Use clans to view active factions, requirements, and ranks.
Faction membership may affect quests, NPC reactions, and long-term story outcomes.
Characters are not always required to join a faction, but neutrality has its own consequences.
The struggle for Krynn’s future did not end with the War of the Lance. Choose wisely where your loyalties lie.
